Settled 160 feet from the sands of Playa Curu, the cabins are just part of 3,697 acres of wildlife refuge with eight hiking trails winding through tropical dry forest, mangroves, estuaries, pastures and the Pacific coast. A genuine natural tourism experience, you'll bond with wildlife and join more than 900 species of plants and animals in their beautiful home during a stay in the refuge.

Rooms

Focused more on nature than design, the cabins' simple wooden floors, cement walls and front decks overlook the ocean. Cabins for six guests have two separate rooms with double and bunk beds, shared bathroom and sink on the front deck. Behind each of the cabins, unfurnished kitchen space allows guests to bring appliances and prepare meals.

The current price of the cabins per night is $30/ adult, $15/child under 12-years-old, including park entrance for each guest.

Restaurant

The Curu National Wildlife Refuge dining hall serves authentic Costa Rican breakfast, lunch and dinner for just $10/meal. Simply let the receptionists at the visitor's center know you'd like to eat, and show up next door in the dining hall about 20 minutes later.

The tasty food is set on a small picnic table, served make-your-own-plate style — gallo pinto (mixed rice and beans), scrambled eggs, local fish or stewed chicken, white rice, black beans, Picadillo (chopped vegetables marinated in Lizano sauce), creamy vegetable salads, seasonal fruit and juice.

Services & amenities

The Curu National Wildlife Refuge features eight hiking trails, a swimmable beach, and one- and three-hour horseback tours exploring the grounds from a different perspective.

The visitor's center/souvenir shop, open 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., doubles as reception, and there's plenty of parking out front. Just north of the visitor's center, guests can access a peaceful beachside picnic area. Sightseers can also hire Curu Tourism's local guides for hikes on the refuge's trails, as well as boat, kayak, or diving excursions to Islas Tortugas.
