Rooms
Each of the Tropico Latino's 21 rooms has its own special twist: from rustic simplicity to contemporary chic relaxation, all designed with your gratification in mind.
Get your nature-fix with a room in the Beach House. The superior beachfront room, $186 (July-Aug.), has all local wood interiors, a partially outdoor ceramic tile bathroom with a bathtub, shower, and ceramic sinks painted by local artists, as well as two bedrooms: one with a queen size bed and the other with a king, both with A/C, safety deposit boxes and minifridges. The Beach House is about 200 feet from the ocean with just a few trees standing between it and the shore — left that way to preserve that natural jungle essence.
Sleep somewhere sleeker in Estrella, a concrete white house on the Playa Carmen beachfront. In an upstairs beachfront room, $226 (July-Aug), you'll find white walls, bright orange bedding on one king and one single bed, and an unblocked view of the ocean from a wood-furnished outdoor terrace. When you stay at this house, you also get secure covered parking, a remote control to enter through a side gate, and a private pool - if you stay on the bottom floor.
Spa
Propped along Playa Carmen's coastline, three small wooden buildings make up the Yoga & Spa Natural, pampering you with massages, acupuncture, facials, wraps and exfoliations. Treatments and products elaborated in The Yoga & Spa Natural are 100 percent natural, using ingredients sourced in Costa Rica: papaya, coconut, chocolate, honey, almonds, cucumber and more. Spa hours: Mon-Sat 9 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.; Tel. 2640-0062 ext. 4
Yoga
Two wooden yoga decks sit on the shoreline and face the crashing waves of Playa Carmen. In the studio closest to the spa buildings, classes are open to the public at 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., daily. All skill levels are welcome to embrace the ocean soundtrack and attend the basic yoga classes.
Services and amenities
The reception office is the first building you'll come across when walking toward the ocean from the front parking lot, and the Shambala Restaurant, Yoga & Spa Natural and beach are all nuzzled just beyond there.
Stop at the reception office from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., for a drink of filtered water, to look at a map of Costa Rica, or arrange tours – including Hotel Tropico Latino's own beach horseback tour – and any number of other activities around Santa Teresa and Mal Pais.
Next to the Shambala Restaurant, a pool and Jacuzzi look directly at the Pacific Ocean, and are available for all hotel guests to enjoy.
Out on the beachfront, a social area has hammocks, a child's playhouse and sunbathing chairs, and is the best place to go during sunrise, sunset and just about any time in between.
