Morphos
Morphos trademark blue butterflies adorn the walls throughout the landmark restaurant in downtown Santa Elena. Inside, metallic butterfly chandeliers illuminate the dining room underneath a uniquely designed roof that looks like a rolling wave. The restaurant's intricate hand-painted rainforest landscape includes trees painted two-stories high, toucans and monkeys. Starting back in 1996 as a small vegetarian place, Morphos transformed into a full-scale omnivorous two-story restaurant attracting curious tourists and locals alike.

I had the fried pork loin in a- mango, tamarind sauce – though the cut was a little gristly – served with golden, roasted potatoes and steamed, mixed vegetables.
Ambiance
Relaxed and light-hearted, decorated with intricate hand-painted rainforest landscapes two-story tall, toucans and monkeys; a pleasant second-story patio overlooking an orchid garden and candle-lit tables.
Service
The staff is outgoing and not above joking around with the guests. Servers go the extra mile to meet guests' desires. I watched them bring out giant glasses (filled with three beers) to a group of German tourists looking for more than just a regular pint glass of beer.

Entrees $8-$18.
