Gravel paths lead from the hotel's dock, to the front office area, to 20 rooms, each with unique layouts and local artist's hand painted murals of Drake Bay wildlife on the bedroom walls.
Drake Bay Wilderness Resort's standard four-day, three-night package, $700 per person, in wet season (April 15-Dec. 14.), includes accommodations in a standard ocean view room furnished with one queen and one full size bed, private bathroom, hot water and ceiling fans, along with excursions to Corcovado National Park and Caño Island, and three daily meals.
The deluxe room, $35 per person per night extra to the standard package, includes two queen sized beds, A/C, minifridge, standing shower, inside sitting area and a patio with reclining chairs and a table.
Food
Three meals per day (included with the standard package) are served in the vibrant dining room that features another hand painted mural of Drake town.
A buffet style breakfast, 6 a.m. - 8 a.m., prepares guests for a day of activities: fruit, yogurt cereal, toast, pastries, scrambled eggs and sausage are all up for grabs, along with juice, coffee and an assortment of hot teas for beverages.
Three course lunches, 12 p.m.-1:30 p.m., and dinners, 6:30 p.m., prepared with some homegrown ingredients from the lodge's farm are internationally inspired, fresh and flavorful. A pitcher of fruit juice and water are served with both, but alcoholic beverages are extra, ranging $3-$6.
During a four-day stay meals might be ceviche with green-fried plantains or a crispy garden salad with red onions, lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumbers, splashed with a balsamic vinegar dressing, as an appetizer, followed by fried mahi-mahi tacos with a side of homemade pico de gallo or grilled beef with vegetable ribbons and cheesy potatoes as the main dish, the kitchen can also cater to vegetarians upon request. Dessert is always offered after lunch and dinner and the daily option could be strawberry ice cream or banana cream pie.
For an excellent ocean view and complimentary snacks every day at 4:30 p.m., head to the hotel’s open-air, thatched roof bar that is open from 3:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
Services and Amenities
Throughout Drake Bay Wilderness Resort, relax in hammocks, take the complimentary kayaks out on the Agujitas River or take a dip in the sparkling natural water pool located next to the bar. Cocolito Beach is a 10-minute walk from the hotel and makes a great area for ocean swimming and sunbathing.
At the front office, open from 7 a.m. – 9 p.m., borrow books, hairdryers, refill on filtered water, and access complimentary Wi-Fi. Laundry service is included with all rates.
Tours
Drake Bay Wilderness Resort’s different all-inclusive packages include one to five tours with the hotel's English-speaking guides.
Guests can customize their options with dolphin, bug, canopy and waterfall tours, as well as excursions to Corcovado National Park, Caño Island and the mangrove forests. Scuba diving and sport fishing are an additional cost.
