Sol Samara
A less crowded stretch of beach, freckled with bubblegum-pink seashells at the southern end of Playa Samara, entices guests from Sol Samara to make their way down the road to experience even more tranquility. Only a mile and a half outside the lively downtown, Sol Samara is the spot for a peaceful retreat that isn't completely separated from all the action.

Melina wood furnishings accentuate the standard room, $95, with the conveniences of a soft queen-sized bed and pullout, A/C and cable TV. A safety deposit box, private bathroom, blow dryer and Wi-Fi are also available in the rooms for added comfort. Each of the rooms at Sol Samara is given a clever name representing elements of Costa Rican culture — such as Cacique, Imperial, Café and Tucán — instead of a standard room number.
Services & amenities
Sol Samara's triangular-shaped pool, tucked in the back corner, is best for dipping your feet or floating carelessly. At the edge of the hotel's side walkway, guests can sit and drink at the bar overlooking a garden, grass lawn and Papaya trees.
The hotel's receptionists are respectful and give plenty of space, allowing for ultimate relaxation. Help with arranging transportation and tours is available, as well as private parking on site.
Restaurant
The Restaurant Doña Sixta is a small kitchen downstairs at Sol Samara that prepares big flavors. Specializing in fresh food, the restaurant’s menu is calm and simple, just like the hotel.
Mornings start with coffee, juice and assorted plates; eggs and toast, French toast, gallo pinto (mixed rice and beans) or fresh local fruit.
Afternoons elicit light lunches: grilled meat and fish, served a la carte or as a mixed salad, $10, grilled chicken, crisp lettuce and ripe tomato wedges.
Just before sunset, happy hour at the "Bar Coyote Ugly," whips up fresh piña coladas, $6.
Dinner spotlights seasonal seafood creations, including steamed halibut, $12, topped with steamed vegetables and a side of white rice or glazed with a creamy red bell pepper and shrimp sauce and sides of mashed potatoes and julienned steamed vegetables.
After the meal, desserts flaunt fruit; flambéed banana, $6, white wine, orange juice and sugar honey sauce, topped with vanilla ice cream.
