Soda La Perla
Take a seat at the surfboard table or wrap around counter in front of Soda La Perla, where Owner Narcisa Diaz and her family invite hungry Samara beach-goers to enjoy a hearty feast under a shaded patio in front of their family homes and surf school offices.
read more closeBelly up for a bold-tasting lunch that's nothing short of astounding. You'll be moved to silence with La Perla's new twist to the Costa Rican typical casado, $4, flaky fresh sea bass laying over consommé-flavored noodles, and mixed salad, with a heaping spoonful of crunchy gallo pinto (mixed rice and beans) - instead of separate plain white rice and black beans like most casados.
Equally as filling, rice with Puntarenas-caught shrimp, $5, seasoned with onions and red bell peppers mixes with minced vegetables and flavorsome broth for a lighter meal that still fills you up.
Spice your meal with a spoonful of the house red salsa, made with Narcisa's recipe: tomato, hot pepper and vinegar. Extinguish the saucy flame in your mouth with a gulp of one of the tropical fruit drinks, $2, papaya, pineapple or banana poured into a plastic cup just like you'd use at home.
Ambiance
Just a few hundred feet from the northern tip of Playa Samara, guests can venture from downtown or walk straight up the shore to greet Narcisa and get their grub. Eggs sit on counter, dishes get washed out in the open, and laundry hangs from the rack just around the corner from the lunch counter — a recipe for genuine home cooking.
Service
More personal than you'll find in a mainstream restaurant, the family invites you in to chat like one of their kin, cooking with passion for tourists and friends alike.
