Behind coastal almond and palm trees tucked into the botanical gardens that surround four unique rental homes, Tree House Lodge is a hotel/rental hybrid hidden among the natural coastline of Playa Chiquita.
read more closeTree House Lodge has manicured the rainforest growth into blooming gardens of pink ginger, wild bamboo and local palms. Owner and Architect, Edsart Besier has personally designed the homes integrating natural rainforest materials into the construction to make innovative and luxurious accommodations for couples and families. Much of the wood used for construction has been taken from fallen rainforest trees pulled from the forest by oxen-drawn carts, taken from the Sixaola River and local beaches.
Rooms
The first of Besier's homes, the Tree House, was built on the upper story of an old sangrillo tree that gave the lodge its name. Besier has since added three additional homes: the Garden House, Beach House and Beach Suite. Built to maximize privacy while minimizing environmental impact, each of the homes is on a separate corner of the property spread across nine acres and connected by botanical trails. All of the homes come fully-equipped with kitchens, wood-fired Jacuzzis, Ipod docks, Wi-Fi and safety deposit boxes.
Built 250-feet from the shore, the Beach House, $250 for two people, has its own private trail leading to the sandy coast of Playa Chiquita. The house's exterior features a thatch veranda, sun deck and private patio with its own wood-fired Jacuzzi. The interior, reminiscent of a conch shell, features a split-level design with a central spiral staircase that leads to an open-air master bedroom furnished with a king-sized bed and mosquito net. Downstairs, the Beach House has twin sets of double doors that open to the patio, an additional double-size bed with mosquito net and a full kitchen that includes a fridge, gas stove, coffee maker (with coffee), sink, dishes and silverware. A spacious, stone bathroom connects to the rear of the home and includes two French-style showerheads underneath glass ceilings.
Restaurant
The Tree House Lodge doesn't have a restaurant, though there are local restaurants and grocery stores located only a few minutes' walk from the lodge.
Services & amenities
The Tree House Lodge is also home to an Iguana sanctuary. Though the sanctuary has decreased in size in recent years, the sanctuary is home to about 60 iguanas living among its trees, knolls and ponds. Entrance to the sanctuary is free for all lodge guests.
The lodge also includes daily maid service.
