Rooms
Although, Hotel Puerto Viejo dubs itself as a hotel, it's really more of a hostel, complete with 53 private dorms with shared bathrooms, 5 rooms with private bathrooms and an apartment that sleeps four. Most of the dorms face toward the courtyard and garden in the center of Hotel Puerto Viejo, while a few more are located down a hallway and on the second-story above the hotel's reception. Each of the dorms with shared bathroom (and hot water) is $12 in the dry season (Dec.-March) and features a double or a single bed, screen windows and a fan.
The apartment, $50 per night in any season, sits on the second story overlooking Hotel Puerto Viejo. From its large wooden private balcony and patio, there are views of the hotel, the gravel parking lot and the street out front. Inside, the apartment has a fully-equipped kitchen, two couches (one with a fold-out bed), a double bed and a private bathroom with hot water.
Services & amenities
Hotel Puerto Viejo has its own full-equipped communal kitchen for guests, fridge, pool table, computer, Wi-Fi access, guide books, parking lot and a nightly security guard. The staff is friendly, knows a lot about area tours and has good recommendations for restaurants.
