Prioritizing windows over walls, urban contextualization over antique-artifice, Kura visually ensnares guests whether you're looking out from the 62-foot salt water infinity pool or standing on the private deck of your villa staring at the whale-tail-shaped sand bar off the coast of Uvita Beach in the Ballena National Park.
Rooms
Nearly 15-foot-tall glass French doors open to your private terrace replete with couples' hammock, seats and unimpeded views of the surrounding landscapes from Dominical to the far reaches of the Osa Peninsula. Inside each villa, $540 in wet season (April-Nov.) w/ breakfast, you'll find a king-sized bed among walls of polished concrete, raised bamboo ceilings and intricately carved wooden masks from the local Boruca tribe.
An array of switches beside the bed controls lights for every occasion, ruby mood-setting, up lighting, small track lights showcasing the room's artwork, reading lights, and more. A second, adjoining room features a massive glass encased shower – with double French-style shower heads – that looks out onto the terrace. Each villa includes A/C, Wi-Fi, minifridge, wine fridge, coffee maker, hair dryer, wine, coffee and snacks.
Restaurant
Kura's restaurant opens to the west overlooking the infinity pool spilling over the horizon to the Pacific coastline, while to the east; the green flourish of the rainforest canopy swells the mountainous landscapes. With only six tables, Kura ensures an intimate dining experience. The menu emphasizes the best of the local catch like the crispy, panko encrusted yellow fin tuna, $20, in a star fruit glaze with sticky sushi rice and garden salad, as well as, fresh Costa Rican tropical fruit like in the breakfast fruit plate or the coco passion mojito, $8, made with Malibu rum, brown sugar, mint and passion fruit.
Services & amenities
Kura includes its own transportation from the town of Uvita up through the mountain pass to the hotel. Every day at 10:30 a.m. the hotel offers a free shuttle from the hotel to Ballena or Uvita Beach with pick up at 1:30 p.m. Kura also has its own spa that focuses on personal attention – you'll have the entire spa to yourself – with an in-house therapist that works 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
