Kayak through the turbulent waters of the Ventanas (windows), a volcanic rock archway whittled away by Pacific swells standing more than three-stories high. It's just part of a system of volcanic caverns that extend the coastline from Ventanas Beach through Ballena National Marine Park.
read more closeGeared more toward the athletic and adventurous, this tour takes guests out into the Pacific Ocean to tangle with the swells and the winds to see caverns, arches and beaches. Leaving from the southern-most beach of Ballena National Marine Park (a $6 entrance fee), guests kayak a mile along the coast past a bay and through the arch before landing on the secluded, palm-fringed Ventanas Beach.
Guides provide snacks and crack open fresh coconuts for guests to enjoy while relaxing in the shade of the mangrove trees on the beach's south end.
Tidal formed caverns spume and jet with ocean water as the waves roll through them. Step inside and feel the breeze roll over you while the current sucks at your legs. Each cavern is more than 100-feet long, connecting the beach with the ocean.
Besides spelunking, guests can try their hand at kayak surfing and soak in the sun on the beach. After about an hour and half, guests can paddle back to Pinuelas Beach in Ballena National Marine Park, or, hang out on the beach for another hour while a guide comes back with transportation to leave directly from Ventanas Beach.
