Turtle Beach Lodge hides in the far reaches of Tortuguero's canals where the rainforest collides with the beach, monkeys play in the trees above your room and red-eyed green tree frogs sing you to sleep. Only accessible by boat, Turtle Beach lodge is an all-inclusive ecolodge that includes round-trip transportation from San Jose, meals and a variety of tours depending on your stay – most guests stay for one or two nights.

Rooms
Float down Turtle Beach Lodge's private canal and step onto the shore under the shady canopy of trees planted by the lodge's personnel as part of its reforestation program. Stone statuettes of jaguars and tapirs stalk through the gardens on the path en route to your rooms, but keep an eye out for the spider monkeys often spotted playing in the trees.
Inside the rooms, visitors will find vaulted ceilings with pale blue walls, screen windows and red tile floors furnished with two fans mirrors, private bathrooms with hot showers, two full-sized beds, or, two-full size beds and one single.
The most popular package is a two-day and one night stay for two people with a visit to Tortuguero village and national park, plus lodging, transportation and meals for $218 (year round). The price for two night and three days package is $299 and includes free use of the hotel's canoes and kayaks.
Restaurant
Turtle Beach Lodge's restaurant serves three buffet-style meals per day included in its packages. Breakfast includes fresh fruit, cereal, gallo pinto (rice and beans) and scrambled eggs while lunch and dinner feature dishes like beef fajitas, Caribbean-style chicken, pork chops and pasta along with salad, vegetables, dessert and natural juice.
Services & amenities
One of the lodge's most interesting quirks, is its collection of rocket ship parts that washed ashore on the beach outside the hotel in 2012. Parts of the nosecone (which actually made it to space) from two separate launches now stand together in the lodge's garden just past the exit to the private trail.
In addition to the miniature space museum, Turtle Beach Lodge features its own turtle-shaped swimming pool, beach and volleyball court. While the lodge doesn't offer Wi-Fi, it does have one computer with Internet access provided at reception.
