Lagarta Lodge Restaurant
Dine at Lagarta Lodge Restaurant with an astounding Nosara coastal view and meals bursting with fresh local flavors from the hills of the Cerro Negro and Pacific waters of Playa Pelada.
read more closeOut on the Lagarta Lodge veranda, an exceptionally tasty breakfast buffet, $9, delights you with locally grown organic fruit, cheese and deli meats, strawberry yogurt and granola, warm multigrain bread, homemade fruit jam, pancakes, and eggs cooked to order.
Lighter lunches feature sandwiches, salads, Costa Rican combination plates and fresh seafood. One of the best is seasonal pan-seared red snapper, $16, served with signature organic mixed salad of kale, mustard leaf, palm heart, tomato, avocado, and a splash of oil and vinegar.
From the Sunset Bar on the furthest tip of Lagarta Lodge, you'll have a crystal clear view of the sands of Playa Pelada and the smooth stream of the Nosara River. The scenic bar serves great Tequila Sunrise, $5, shaken with lemon, orange and grenadine, and seafood snacks: fried calamari, $4, with a creamy curry dipping sauce, and ceviche, $5, fresh-caught fish seasoned with red bell pepper, onion and cilantro.
After the lavender and fuchsia sunset fades dark, tablecloths and glassware are set out for a quaint dinner. Two of Lagarta's best sellers are bacon-wrapped grilled shrimp skewer, $21, served with a side of thick spiced curry dipping sauce, and beef tenderloin, $20, with sauteed vegetables and potato croquette sides. Both taste best when sipping a glass of chilled red wine, $7.
Any of the desserts shine equally as bright under the starry sky, so try coconut flan, $3, dusted with coconut shavings, or cheesecake, $3, topped with passion fruit compote.
Ambiance
During breakfast and lunch, guests come and go freely from the restaurant's panoramic edge with bright views of the Nosara Biological Reserve, Nosara River and Playa Pelada. Dinner is more intimate, lit only by small candles at the centers of the tables.
Service
Swiss owners Amadeo and Regina Amacker help run the dining room during the daytime, assisted by young, friendly waitresses and an efficient cooking staff. The restaurant area is small, perfect for dates and relaxed conversation.
