Rooms
Featuring an eclectic design with influences from Asian and Spanish architecture, Hotel San Bada's golden columns and archways lead guests to one of 67 different rooms across five floors. Each room faces the main pool with balconies in back overlooking either the jungle or the beach.
Standard rooms have a jungle view, $195 in the wet season (May- Nov.) with breakfast, feature either one king-size or two full-size beds black cherry stained dressers, bed frames, and tables. Each room comes equipped with a minifridge, flat screen TV, A/C, Wi-Fi, French shower head, coffee maker and hair dryers.
Restaurant
The breakfast buffet, included in the room rate, is among the best in Manuel Antonio with hot, crispy bacon, sausage, French toast, fresh fruit, gallo pinto (mixed rice and beans) and a station where a chef waits to make you an omelet or fresh eggs in any style.
Besides breakfast, the Congo Restaurant at Hotel San Bada features a large menu with new innovations on Costa Rican classics like the casado, $10, served with your choice of meat, salad, rice, beans, plantains and a picadillo (baked, diced squash) in a unique presentation.
The restaurant's specialty however, is the Congo burger, $13; a gigantic, half-pound burger with all the trimmings including grilled onions, bacon, mushrooms, cheddar cheese, lettuce and relish served with hot steak fries.
Services & amenities
Hotel San Bada has two pools, one at the base of the hotel complete with Jacuzzi, footbridge and waterslide for kids and families and another pool on the rooftop for adults (aka quiet time) with views of the rainforest and Espadilla beach.
Check-in for a day at San Bada's spa with rooms beside the rainforest dedicated to massage, mani-pedis, a steam room and a sauna. In addition the hotel has a gym, a business center, conference room and is 95 percent handicap accessible.
The hotel also sells tickets to Manuel Antonio national park (for guests only) at its front desk, so guests can avoid the long wait and hassle that can accompany waiting to buy a ticket to enter the park. Reception is friendly and helpful when it comes to finding restaurants, planning activities and calling tour operators.
