The jungle looks bigger, greener and more brilliant where there aren't any buildings to retreat inside. Hacienda Pozo Azul's tent suites are a little bit like re-living your first experience camping; carefree adventures, chef-prepared meals and that childlike wonder that comes at night as the moonlight trickles down through the forest canopy softly illuminating the tent.
Set up on wooden decks built a few feet off the forest floor, each suite has a patio with a small table and chairs for taking in the views of the surrounding rainforest. The doubles, $92, fit two queen size beds, a bedside table and a fan. Large tarp awnings extend over the deck and tents protecting guests from the nighttime rainforest drizzle.
The bathrooms are small cabin-style rooms connected to the tents and come equipped with solar-heated showers, toilets, sinks, safety deposit boxes and storage space. The bathroom doors even have keys to lock-up personal belongings so they aren't left in the tent. The tent suites do have electricity, though there's only an electric lantern in the tent and lights in the bathroom.
The dining and common areas are a short walk from the suites. Providing Internet access, cable television and couches, the it is a tranquil departure into the arms of modern technology while still taking in the cool rainforest climate. Beside the common area, there's the dining room where chefs serve breakfast (which is included in the hotel rate) and dinner. Lunch is served over at the adventure center.
Adventure Center Tours
From the tent-suites there's a narrow gravel path, barely visible among the fallen leaves, that'll take guests through the rainforest back to the adventure center. Alternatively, there's a road (parking is available at the tent suites and adventure center) or transportation available at the front desk. Either way it's about a 0.6 miles back to the adventure center from the tent suites.
Whitewater rafting, safari river, canopy, horseback riding, hiking and mountain biking, are just some of the tours offered at the adventure center. Guests don't have to stay at the hotel to join the tours; the adventure center is open for everyone. Tours start at 9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. daily and must be booked in advance.
