We were confused when we got buzzed through the door into the lobby to find that the hotel was under construction, but weren't too concerned with a little daytime hammering and drilling. That said, the rooms – $28, for a double bed, fan, private bath and two bar stools – clung to the thinnest shred of human decency; saved by clean sheets, cable TV and good Wi-Fi (well, until the power went out on the last morning of our stay).
That did not make up for the 4- by 3-foot shower with bare cement floors, exposed wires hanging from the showerhead and the half-hearted attempt someone gave to scrub the water damage and mold blooms off the walls beside the toilet. Then there were the sink that leaked over the floor when turned on and a lack of any toilet paper in the room. Cockroaches scuttled across the floor at night (presumably from the exposed hole in the wall where an outlet used to be) accompanied by the sounds of city traffic and car alarms.
Services & amenities
Receptionists seem to appear and disappear only to buzz you through the door, but at least there's some kind of security. There's a casino downstairs, Big Boy baseball stadium across the street and nearby Avenida 2, one of the main streets in downtown Limon, that offers a slurry of bars, sodas (small family-owned Costa Rican restaurants), fast food restaurants, fruit vendors and grocery stores.
